This 4-day course is a development programme designed for experienced primary care professionalsoperating at a strategic level within their organisations. The programme aims to develop the critically evaluative and leadership skills appropriate to this level of responsibility.

The programme would be ideal for experienced Practice Managers, GPs, Nurse Managers or CCG Managers who wish to develop their leadership skills.

If required, the programme can be assessed via a single 5000 word critical incident review. Successful candidates will gain the ILM Level 7 Award in Strategic Leadership.

The ILM Level 3 Award is an ideal step towards management for those general practice staff who may be in a supervisory position and wish to expand their knowledge of management skills and techniques. The programme is therefore ideal for current or aspiring Assistant or Deputy Practice Managers, Office Managers and Senior Receptionists.

A series of facilitated action learning sets for small groups of experienced Practice Managers. Action Learning is an established approach that allows topics to be discussed in a non-competitive and confidential environment with the emphasis on learning from each other. The Action Learning process allows participants to explore key business and service problems and challenges and to access advice, feedback and support.

GPs are once again being asked to develop change, pushing through major reforms against a backdrop of financial constraints. Whether the GP is trying to motivate and coordinate colleagues on a CCG, or galvanise a practice team to face challenges brought about by change, strong but sensitive leadership is essential.

The AMSPAR/City and Guilds Level 5 Certificate / Diploma in Primary Care and Health Management is in fact two courses in one. The Level 5 Certificate consists of 4 units delivered via 8 workshop days over a period of 12 months. To top up to the Diploma, candidates are required to complete a further 3 units delivered via 5 workshop days over a further 12 months.
