Our development programmes are carefully tailored to meet the needs of the Primary Care sector. Here are the details of the primary care specific programmes we run, plus information about upcoming courses.

ILM accredited/recognised training for GP Practice Managers and staff

Running a GP practice is no easy task, with a multitude of issues and problems to deal with on an everyday basis. How do you solve them? Our targeted development programmes come with an essential sector-specific context, but the leadership and management elements are relevant for any and every field.

Development Programme for Primary Care Management

  • Would you like to develop your leadership and management skills?
  • Do you have a demanding job and a busy life?
  • Do you not have the time to undertake a qualification?

We believe we’ve found the answer in this programme which is designed for Practice Managers and Deputies/Assistants with a desire to move on to a more senior role.  This programme will be recognised by ILM and at the end of the course there will be a certificate from ILM. It won’t, however, be a nationally recognised qualification. This does mean of course there are no assignments and no exam.

The programme is delivered via 12 full day workshops over 24 to 30 months. It concentrates on topics in which, as a primary care manager, will be your priorities.

THIS PROGRAMME COVERS:

  • Developing and Leading Teams (including management skills, resilience and assertiveness)
  • Managing Performance Day 1 (including appraisals and objective setting)
  • Managing Performance Day 2 (including competencies, capabilities, training and development)
  • Understanding Financial Management Day 1 (budget setting)
  • Understanding Financial Management Day 2 (income and expenditure control)
  • Managing Stress and Conflict
  • Cultural and Ethical Issues
  • Managing Recruitment
  • Managing a Healthy and Safe Environment
  • Understanding Strategic Development (including mergers, cooperative working and federations)
  • Managing and Implementing Change Day 1
  • Managing and Implementing Change Day 2

ILM Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management

Receptionists and administrators are often promoted into supervisory positions, moving from one of the team to leading the team. This short programme gives Senior Receptionists, Assistant or Deputy Practice Managers, Office Managers and more the skills and confidence to make a smooth and successful transition. Successful candidates are awarded the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management.

This programme covers

  • Understand how to motivate people to improve their performance
  • Get to grips with the workplace communication process and harness it to everyone’s advantage
  • Developing your skill set and boost your confidence

Leadership and Management Development Programme for Lead Practice Nurses

Syder & Young Ltd have created a new 3-day management and leadership development programme specifically for Lead Practice Nurses. The content of the programme is designed to equip delegates with the skills and knowledge required in leading a team.

Each of the 3 workshops will cover two subject areas (see below) and all sessions will be led by Pauline Young, Director, Syder & Young Ltd.

NB: This course may be eligible for CEPN funding. Please contact your Workforce Tutor for further details.

  • Workshop 1: Management and Leadership Skills / Motivating and Developing the Team
  • Workshop 2: Managing Performance / Managing Appraisals
  • Workshop 3: Developing Resilience and Mental Toughness / Developing Assertiveness
